2012 CLS – A Look at the Revamped Superstar of Cars

2012 CLS frontWhen Mercedes came up with the CLS-class for the first time way back in 2004, most of its competitors were left aghast by the look and feel of that new model. They were rattled to their bases and their designers quickly retired to the design room to make sure they had an iota of a chance in the international auto market. That was a suddenly surprised auto market seven or eight years back. Today, the automobile scene is being already entertained by new designs from various manufacturers like Audi and BMW – both from Germany. In fact, if you bring in Mercedes into the equation, you can clearly see that although Germany might have lost the war and had had to suffer decades of divisive politics due to a wall that ran through the nation, when it comes to cars, nothing can beat it.

2012 CLS sideSo, unlike the last time, this time when Mercedes decided to launch the 2012 CLS model into the market, it was not like painting in a blank canvas anymore, but more like changing the texture and hue of an existing painting. The market is already filled with the stars from the rivals in the form of Audi’s A7 Sportback and BMW 7 Series. The element of surprise could not be used again. So, Mercedes decided to do what it does best – work on making the existing model better. The Mercedes 2012 CLS workmanship totally reinforces the fact most of the time from 2005 to 2010 was spent in redesigning the previous model, which was not a bad idea considering that in all other areas, the CLS series was already ahead of the competition.

2012 CLS rearAs opposed to a more smooth and curvy look that was a trademark of the 2005 CLS, the newer 2012 CLS used a more sculpted and chiseled exterior. It is not like some of the other “new” designs, which in the name of experimentation leave one end smooth and the other end rugged. In the 2012 CLS the entire body, from the Mercedes logo to the taillights, is modeled under the same look. It is true that there have been critics who have said that Mercedes should not have tweaked the look of the earlier version because it is very popular out there. After all, why fix something if it is not broken? However, the 2012 CLS did aim for a newer look and whether you like it or don’t it is definitely a look that is going to be talked about.

Wrapping things in the exterior when it comes to the look and the design, the 2012 CLS also comes equipped with LED daytime lights and even the headlights are fully LED enabled. From a very external point of view and at the risk of sounding really shallow, the seventy one LEDs that come equipped not only give way to way better visibility under dark conditions but also make the car look deliciously cool and snazzy. All in all, the 2012 CLS is a good looking car that surely will attract prospective buyers when exposed even in a highly competitive auto show.
